Within a short period a cholera epidemic broke out due to the complete lack of sanitation. The international community, yet again, failed to foresee the impending disaster, a disaster prefaced by the genocide in Rwanda. It was left to the non-govenmental agencies to cope with this massive relief operation before the lugubrious wheels of international aid started to move. I travelled to Goma as a logistician and photographer for the Irish relief and development agency GOAL.
