Cash for Work

March 2005 - Workers clearing Kirinda town. The coastal town of Kirinda in Hambantota District was almost completely flattened by the tsunami. The entire community depends on the fishing and fishery related industries for their livelihoods. Led by Noel Ellard, an engineer with many years experience, GOAL employed over 600 local people in the clean up of the town, road maintenance and building repair in preparation for GOAL sponsored fishery regeneration projects.
